Animal Breeding Programme

Research and production activities applied in the scope of the programme complement each other harmoniously.

As a research task, development possibilities of the sheep-farming sector in the Great Plain are explored and experiments are performed in relation with the environment friendly utilization of unfavourable grasslands.

Our subtopics - comparative examination of different perspective sheep genotypes, cross-breeding, further improvement of keeping and feeding technology of sheep-farming, compost made of sheep manure, clarification of the cultivation technology of pasture-substituting forage, and the impact assessment of compost-based nutrient supply ecological grassland farming – characterise our research activities.

Our research and production base is remarkable at national level: 2 sites, 1100 female sheep, 210 hectares, 2 researchers and 8 people in auxiliary staff.

In addition to our research results, we are trying to serve as a demonstrative, inspirational space for farmers in the region through the distribution of breeding animals, lambs and compost.
