Our Institute always considered its important task to provide help people farming on low productivity soils of the area by providing accessibility to local plant species and varieties that are able to adapt to the circumstances. Preservation of plant materials (lines), which participated in the formation of the new varieties are important pillars of breeding and variety maintenance, and they might become the foundation of future breeding activities.
Therefore, the tasks of our Institute include gene preservation activities, in the scope of which the preservation of 1,800 breeding strains is carried out in a durable storage on 4 oC. Researchers responsible for each breeding topics, take care of preserving the reproductive ability of the materials by means of continuous cultivation (renewal). Besides, we have an in vitro gene bank, which is situated in our Biotechnological Laboratory.
